Unlike Windows, because macOS is designed explicitly for its hardware, it is far more power-efficient. This being said, it’s challenging to provide you with an exact amount of time your battery will last because of the variables such as your usage, the room temperature, and what surface your laptop is on. However, that’s not what you want to hear! So we did some internal testing on models from 2011 up to 2019, with varying things running to simulate usage and we found that even our oldest systems should provide at least 3+ hours of battery life with general usage.
Now what we want to note here is that this isn’t guaranteed because of the number of variables, however, to be constructive we’ve put together some guidelines to help improve battery life:
- Regular Restarts – (Closes background apps)
- Update Your Software – (Software improvements decrease usage)
- Check Your Usage – (Use Activity Monitor to check your intensive apps)
- Run Native Apps – (Safari is more efficient on macOS than chrome)
- Turn Down Screen Brightness – (Especially in the dark!)
- Use Headphones – (Speakers drain battery life)
- Turn On ‘Automatic Graphics Switching’
- Turn On ‘Put Hard Disks to Sleep When Possible’
- Turn On ‘Wake for Wi-Fi Network Access’
When we’re testing our refurbished laptops the battery is a key part. What we want to ensure is that any customer who receives a laptop isn’t going to have an overly worn battery. We don’t replace all batteries as it would be damaging to the environment doing it unnecessarily. We apply condition boundaries to our batteries of 80% design capacity or 1000 cycles. We found this to be the correct balance between the impact on the environment and the customer experience.
We understand you may be worried about your new Apple laptop coming with a bad battery so to try and ease that fear unlike any other Apple reseller, we provide a warranty on our batteries. If at any point during the first year you receive a battery service notification we will replace your battery free of charge. You will see this outlined further in our terms & conditions. All you need to do is get in touch with our support team and let them know it’s appeared and we will get your battery switched over.
